Casting Call for Season 1 of Hex Academy

The Hive Collaborative is pleased to announce it is casting for HEX ACADEMY, a fun show featuring the “Hex Challenges” (games) seen on or inspired by the three seasons of Enter the Hex, a tabletop roleplaying gameprov series.  Enter the Hex Show Logo

About the Show

Hex Academy will originate from the stage of The Hive Collaborative in Provo, Utah in front of a live studio audience. Hex Academy Season 1 will run for four Friday and/or Saturday evenings, with exact dates to be announced once public health concerns are more fully resolved.

As you know, brave champions of Throssia have long had to endure a series of challenges that sometimes stretched them to their very core. These challenges manifested themselves in the Hex as what may appear to the untrained observer to be little more than games, but were in fact at times to-the-death challenges on which hung the fate of all the citizens of Throssia.

Thus far, these brave champions have had to face these challenges with no idea whatsoever what was coming their way. But as the stakes continue to rise higher with each new encounter our champions face, we believe we must likewise escalate our efforts to prepare for whatever Throssian enemies throw at us.

As such, the five clans of Throssia have joined together to create the Hex Academy. Within the walls of the castle of Riverford, the clans have built an exact replica of the Hex tavern, down to the smallest of details.

Teams of researchers have done their best to recreate the challenges our champions have previously faced, sometimes precisely as they were originally presented, and sometimes with new wrinkles based on Professor Lorilla Scheppen’s scientific projections about the potential evolutionary trajectory of future Hex challenges.

Now we are looking for up to 32 brave citizens of Throssia willing to put themselves to the test in the first semester of Hex Academy taking place on four consecutive Fridays and/or Saturdays to see who can prove themselves in the heat of battle. You may apply as an individual or as a team of four champions.

These challenges will be streamed live to all of Throssia with boon voting to help determine who will advance and to provide compensation for members of the Hex Academy. One team will even win the coveted Hex Challenge Cup with a bonus cash prize. You might even win a spot in Enter the Hex Season 4, coming soon to HiveChannel5.com.

Roles & Schedule

Roles

We are seeking a champion for each clan and 3-4 additional clan members who will play together as a team. Feel free to audition for a champion position, and if you are cast, you may recruit friends you think might be a good fit for Hex Academy, or you may draw from those champions who have submitted their applications to be part of Hex Academy.

Schedule

Hex Academy will originate from the stage of The Hive Collaborative in Provo, Utah in front of a live studio audience. Champions

Each team will consist of four Champions (or players), each of whom will be featured for at least one Friday/Saturday set of performances. Champions need not be experienced in tabletop role-playing games, but should be willing to gamely dive right into their assigned character and determine the extent they want to follow the advice of their team Guardians. In addition, one Champion for each team will be chosen to return to play on the final Friday/Saturday of the show. As such, Champions must be available for one of the following pairs of dates: July 12-13, July 19-20, July 26-27 & Aug. 2 & 3, and all Champions must be available to return if called upon for the final two nights: Aug. 16 & 17.

Returning Auditioners/Season 1 Cast Members

We’d love to see you again. If you absolutely can’t make the audition dates, please still complete the form below and let us know you’re interested in Season 2.

What to Prepare

For Enter the Hex Season 2, we are continuing to develop our spin on tabletop role-playing games. Working within a fairly streamlined format of the show means that we will be seeking to keep our players’ attributes somewhat simplified. Players selected to participate in Season 2 will be asked to adopt a character created specifically for the show with designated attributes that may be different from other tabletop RPGs. For your audition, we are more interested in how well you can adopt an assigned character, which may not be the specific character you bring for your audition. As such, we would ask that you come with two contrasting characters, from two different clans (see below), to demonstrate your range. For your audition, we’d ask you to introduce yourself briefly, including your name and experience in tabletop RPGs, then to introduce your first character by sharing your character’s name and telling us in character a little bit about your character. We may also ask you to do the same for your second character. We may also verbally present a situation to you and ask you to respond to it as your character would.

It would also be helpful to watch at least parts of a few episodes of Season 1 (click here).
